Who We Are?

The Joy Fund is a registered non profit organization, we believe that every child deserves the chance to thrive, regardless of their circumstances. Founded on the principles of compassion and empowerment, we provide comprehensive, holistic support to some of Zimbabwe’s most vulnerable children – including orphans, children living in poverty, underprivileged learners struggling to access education, and children with disabilities who face additional barriers to inclusion and opportunity.

Our approach is intentionally holistic, recognizing that children’s needs are interconnected and multifaceted. We address not only immediate physical needs like hunger and lack of basic necessities, but also emotional well-being, educational development, and social inclusion. By taking this comprehensive approach, we create sustainable pathways out of poverty and disadvantage, empowering children to break cycles of intergenerational poverty and build brighter futures for themselves and their communities.

Compassion: The Heart of Our Work

Compassion is not merely a concept we reference but the very heartbeat of our organization. We approach every child, every family, and every situation with deep empathy and genuine care for the inherent dignity and worth of each individual. Our team members and volunteers are selected not only for their skills but for their demonstrated capacity to see beyond circumstances to the precious child within. We listen attentively to understand unique stories and needs, responding not with pity but with empowering love that affirms each child’s value and potential.

We fundamentally believe in empowering rather than merely assisting. While we address immediate needs, we simultaneously work to build the capacity, confidence, and skills that enable children and communities to become self-sufficient. Our programs are designed to create dependency only in the short-term while systematically building toward independence and self-reliance. We equip children with education, life skills, and resilience that will serve them throughout their lives, and we work with communities to develop local solutions that will endure long after our direct involvement.

We operate with unwavering integrity, recognizing that we are stewards of both resources and human trust. We maintain complete transparency in our financial operations, with regular audits and detailed reporting available to all stakeholders. Our program decisions are made based on evidence and need rather than convenience or visibility. We honor our commitments to children, families, donors, and partners, understanding that broken promises compound the trauma already experienced by vulnerable populations. Our team members adhere to the highest ethical standards in all interactions.

We take our name seriously – joy is both our mission and our methodology. We believe that moments of genuine joy can be transformative in the life of a child who has known mostly hardship. Beyond meeting material needs, we intentionally create spaces for laughter, play, celebration, and delight. We train our staff and volunteers to bring positive energy and encouragement into every interaction. We celebrate milestones and achievements, both large and small, understanding that feeling seen and celebrated builds the self-worth that drives future success.

HOW WE WORK

Building Pathways from Vulnerability to Victory
